A Wreath for Easter Breakfast (from 3 years)

Bake a delicious Easter wreath with your children! It's a fun recipe for rainy days that builds excitement for Easter. Suitable for ages 3 and up. Let's get started!

Outside, the rain is pouring down, swimming is off the table, and Mom has to go to the hospital to see Great Grandma. But boredom doesn’t stand a chance: Florian and Ella grab Dad and turn the gray day into fragrant Easter joy. Together, they bake a festive wreath for Easter breakfast – a sweet hands-on adventure for children as young as three years old.

So the two of them stomp over to Dad, who is busy in the kitchen. “Dad, are you coming swimming with us?” asks Ella with wide eyes. But Dad explains, “I think the pool is too crowded today. But how about you help me bake an Easter wreath?” The kids are immediately excited because they love the sweet smell and taste of the Easter wreath.

The Magic of Baking

Dad starts the preparations by warming the milk. Then he takes the yeast out of the fridge. “Here, Florian,” he says, “you can crumble the yeast into the warm milk. Watch what happens.” Ella and Florian watch eagerly as the yeast begins to bubble and forms little bubbles in the milk. Ella adds eggs, butter, sugar, and flour to a large bowl. Finally, the yeast is added. With the dough hooks, Dad forms a firm and smooth dough.

The Secret Ingredient

“But something is still missing,” Ella notices thoughtfully. “What is it?” Dad asks curiously. “The raisins, of course!” Ella exclaims excitedly. Dad pulls a bag of raisins from the cupboard. “Please, a lot of raisins!” Florian adds. Together, they knead the dough again with their hands while Dad gradually adds flour until the dough no longer sticks. “Now the dough needs to rise,” Dad explains. “Is it going away?” Ella asks in surprise. “No,” laughs Dad, “just wait and see.”

The Wreath Takes Shape

Dad places the bowl on the radiator and covers it with a cloth. After a while, Ella and Florian peek under the cloth with anticipation. “Wow, that’s a huge blob!” Florian marvels with wide eyes. They take the dough and roll it into a long sausage on the big kitchen table. They carefully place it on the baking sheet and shape it into a wreath. Dad has already preheated the oven and explains to the kids that the wreath will now be baked.

After an hour, the wreath is golden brown, and the delicious smell fills the entire apartment. “Mmm, I’m so looking forward to tomorrow morning,” Ella says excitedly. “Our homemade Easter wreath will surely taste really yummy!” Florian adds. Then they play outside for a long time because the rain has stopped, and the sun is shining.
